Implicit Learning Lab Results

The graphs below present the global averages for both the ÒrandomÓ and ÒpatternÓ version trials from todayÕs Implicit Learning lab.  Averaging the data from over 3000 participants, each graph clearly indicates that the predicted pattern of results was demonstrated for both versions.  In the ÒrandomÓ version of the Implicit Learning lab, the response rate (RT) measured in milliseconds (ms) decreased during the first four trials, or block presentations, and then remained rather constant, approximately 450 ms, throughout the remainder of the 11 blocks.  In the ÒpatternÓ version, the mean RT decreased as well as trials continued but to a slightly shorter RT of about 430 ms on average.  Then, as block 10 was presented, which was the only block in the series of trials to not follow the pattern, there was a spike of increase in RT of about 10 ms. These differences in mean RT between the two versions indicate that participants were able to more quickly respond to the location of the stimulus when its presentation was in a patterned sequence versus when the trials were randomly presented.
