| Becoming a research assistant in the Infant Cognition Laboratory |
Research experience is one of the most important items on your resume,
especially if you are planning to apply to graduate school.
Research assistants get hands-on experience with experimental methods and
after successfully completing their coursework, can receive more personalized
letters of recommendation from the supervising professor and further help in
continuing their studies on the graduate level.
Students participate in laboratory activities for 7 hours/week for 3 credits
(PSYCH 286 OR PSYCH 486, Research Apprenticeship).
Excellent interpersonal skills are vital for working with parents
- assisting in attention and memory studies with infants (6-12 months)
- analyzing data on the computer
- recruiting infant subjects and scheduling appointments
- re-scoring videotapes of experiments
- writing one or more journal article summaries
and infants.
Research in the ICL can also lead you to your Honor's thesis.
